What is HTMLXlat?

HTMLXlat is a small utility that I built some time ago while I was working on the site of my employer: KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. Since KLM has customers all over the world, we also have Internet sites in different languages. This means that we often have to use international characters that should be encoded (e.g. é is é). I noticed that I was often manually converting the special characters to their corresponding HTML codes. I built the HTMLXlat utility to do this automatically in order to make my life a little easier.

What are the features?

HTMLXlat is just a small and simple utility that can be used by a web developer to make life a little easier. Here are the basic features of HTMLXlat:

  • Convert special characters to HTML codes.
  • Convert HTML codes back to special characters.
  • Convert all files in a directory tree automatically.
  • Drag files from Explorer to the HTMLXlat Drag & Drop tab to select files to be converted.
  • The translation table HTMLXlat.dat is a plain text file, so you can add your own HTML codes.
